TRACE
MA in Arts & Learning Exhibition
“Students on the MA Arts and Learning engage with issues regarding dialectical and critical theories, pedagogies and art practices”
Goldsmiths MA in Arts and Learning provides students with an opportunity to critically reflect upon and evaluate their own practices (artistic and pedagogic) in relation to contemporary artist educators and artists’ work presented at international sites/centres, such Tate, Whitechapel Gallery, Gasworks, Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art.
This programme aims to enrich, extend and consolidate students artistic and pedagogical practices for the production of new work and research whilst supporting sustained practical and theoretical research in the continuing professional development of artist educators. This is achieved by enabling reflection on the changing nature of the relationship between contemporary art and pedagogy. In doing so we provide opportunities to engage with practitioners, educators, artists and galleries/sites to explore critical, political, practical and pedagogical debates.

Presenting Photography Artist Cecilia Di Paolo
‘Made to be loved’ was formed with the intent of creating a dystopian future with everyday narratives played out in heterotopian spaces. Di Paolo states that this series of work is “not about sex, it’s about love.”
Her images and films convey an unsettling sense of emotions, drawing you into the mind behind the essence of this body of work. “I am creating an emerging cultural fictive fantasy by performing aspects of fulfilment, loneliness and love.“

Presenting Sculptor Simon Ings
Simon Ings ’Bread, Bread Broken', embodies a quiet simplicity with a strong sense of familiarity. The two sculptures presented together convey the fragility of life and its repercussions from the sacrificial act of breaking something whole. Ings states; “The bread symbolises the conflict between the weight of desire and the necessity of nourishment and when broken, reminds us of the traditions of sharing.”

ANNA KYRIACOU ‘‘AARGH” IS FOR REVENGE
2004
i-D feature by Mark Hooper
Inspired by our everyday self-obsessions, our fantasies and the reverence we pay to material objects, Melina Michael presents Micromono And The Objects. The central piece, Micromono, consists of a video piece of a woman performing a Danish hit song in close-up on a Bang&Olufsen system. A star is born.
The Objects consists of three elements: a VHS carved out of teak wood, branded video cases in rosewood and teak veneer, and a stone sculpture of a B&O amp, speakers, record player and remote control. By presenting these objects in the style of museum pieces, Michael explores our adoration of appliances, the religion of entertainment: worship at your leisure.
